What? Acne And Cows Milk?

Our recommendation is that no one under the age of twelve months be fed cows milk! –
– American Academy of Pediatrics.

They go on to recommend that infants be fed breast milk for the first six to twelve months.

Lets consider the consumption of cows milk and how it relates to acne.

At a certain age, a calf stops drinking its mothers milk. True? Certainly a full grown cow no longer drinks milk from its mother.

Why is it then, that full grown humans would drink milk from the cows mother? Maybe the calf knows something that we dont? Why is it so hard for us to catch on?

Cows Milk And Childhood Health Concerns

Listed below are some of the major health concerns as they are related to the consumption of cows milk:

1. Allergies

2. Iron deficiency anemia

3. Lowered intelligence

4. Milk sensitivities

5. Early atherosclerosis

6. Rheumatoid arthritis

7. Dental decay

8. Infectious diseases

9. Juvenile diabetes

10. Acne

Concern number nine is most unfortunate. I would love to dig a bit deeper into Juvenile Diabetes. However, this article is primarily concerned with number ten, Acne. Yes, acne and cows milk.
One of the sad things when considering treatment for acne is this. Whenever physicians are called in, they very rarely advise dietary change. Most advocate their plethora of drugs. Many times these drugs have harmful side effects.

Discontinuing the use of cows milk would greatly improve the appearance of acne in their patients.

Pasteurization and Sterilization of Milk

One of the most prevalent misconceptions that milk consumers have is that pasteurized milk is free of all disease carrying agents.

There is absolutely no truth in this belief! None whatsoever!

The only thing I am able to concede is that pasteurized milk is safer to drink than raw milk. Its just the lesser of two bad choices.

Keep this in mind, in the pasteurization process, the milk is heated to only 160 degrees Fahrenheit. It remains at this temperature for a mere 15 seconds. It does reduce some of the infectious agents, but it doesnt eliminate them.

Milk that is sterilized would have to be heated to at least 212 degrees Fahrenheit. The milk would then have to stay at that temperature for a sustained period of time.

Bacteria and viruses survive the pasteurization process and live on in milk, and are passed on to milk drinkers. These infectious agents are allowed to run amok within our bodies and their constant attacks weaken our immune system.

Our bodies are protected by a wonderful guard dog called the immune system. It is our on board ally, whose job it is to defend our bodies. All types of disease riddled bacteria and parasites are attacked and destroyed at first sight by a healthy immune system.

On the other hand, an unhealthy immune system is left exposed and unable to do its job on our behalf. A slow to respond and overwhelmed immune system leaves the back door open. We are then prone to attack by any and every disease that comes our way.

Including acne!

It is important to note, the appearance of acne signals an internal imbalance. Something is already wrong with our internal machinery. Milk, with its myriad contaminants has paved the way for acne to enjoy a free uninhibited ride throughout our system.

Remember this. The milk you feed your children today, lays the ground work for acne to surface later on down the road./pbr

Benzoyl Peroxide – The Whole Truth

Posted in Uncategorized on 28.11.09

The majority of people, from teenagers to adults, suffer from
embarrassing acne all over their face at some point in their life.
Your face is your most frequently seen feature so it is desirable
for it to be healthy and clear of blemishes. A common treatment
prescribed by dermatologists contain what is called benzoyl
peroxide. It is widely available in many different brand name
medications such as Oxy or Neutrogena. With any medicine, it has
its good points and bad points.
Benzoyl peroxide is a topical medicine that comes in the form of a
cream, gel, lotion, face mask, or cleansing bar. It is generally
used twice a day but it can vary if your doctor decides that it is
necessary to use it more, or safer to use it less often. Not
following the dosage instructions is very dangerous with this
product because it can cause a bad irritation. The difference
between a prescription and an over-the-counter form of benzoyl
peroxide is that typically prescriptions are of a concentration of
higher than 10%.
The advantage to using benzoyl peroxide is that it has a high
success rate of clearing up acne. It works quickly and can even
clear up severe cystic acne within weeks. However, in some cases it
takes patience to see the desired results. It is available in some
over-the-counter products that you can buy at your local drug
store, which is usually much cheaper than a prescription. It may
even be an ingredient in acne medicines that you already own. It is
an antiseptic that is absorbed very quickly into the skin where it
then works against the bacteria that causes acne and provides
oxidation. The oxidation agent helps to reduce the number of
comedones, which are commonly classified as whiteheads and
blackheads. Its anti-inflammatory properties assists your skin in
the healing process of existing acne, while also preventing future
acne that is caused by inflammation of the skin.
Some people experience irritation from regular use of benzoyl
peroxide and the sometimes acne could get worse. Contact with eyes
is absolutely imperative because it will more than likely cause
permanent blindness. Common side effects that users have
experienced from this medicines use are skin irritations such as
itching, blistering, swelling, and redness. It may also cause
dryness of the skin or mild stinging. If you encounter a problem,
you should discontinue use and talk to your dermatologist about
lowering the dosage or using a milder medication. Because it is a
powerful bleaching agent, you should avoid contact with clothing
and other fabric because it will immediately cause damage to the
colors.
Other uses for this product include dying hair and an ingredient in
most teeth whitening systems. It is also used when flour, fats, and
waxes are bleached. This information proves the strength of benzoyl
peroxide. Before you consider using it, you should definitely
consider that almost all users of higher concentrations of this
medicine have experienced undesired side effects. The condition of
your skin may get worse before it improves but it may be worth it.

Acne Treatment and Skin Care – Tips For Success

Looking in the mirror you can’t help but notice that a new pimple has erupted on your forehead. Right there in the middle of your face what you have been dreading for as long as you can remember. You knew it would happen sooner or later and it finally did. Now it’s time to do everything in your power to make it go away so your friends won’t see it and you won’t have to spend the next week in hiding. That’s how most of us feel the first time we get acne. It seems like our world is ending but it’s not. Acne is nothing to be afraid of, especially if you know how to treat it and minimize the effects; which isnt as tough as it might first sound.

Your first instinct might be to poke and prod at the pimple but that’s not always a good idea. Popping it can lead to scarring, additional redness, and it may even help to spread the acne to other areas of your face. This is definitely the last thing you want to happen. Instead grab that face wash out of the shower and start cleansing your skin. Do this at least twice a day and more often if needed just don’t go over board because it can lead to excess drying of the skin. Of course your best bet would be to clean your face with a product that is designed for your particular skin type – be it oily or dry skin and keep to it even when you don’t have a breakout.

Prevention is the best way to cure acne. Blocked skin pores is what causes acne so preventing blocked skin pores can stop your acne outbreaks either totally or from being as bad as they might be otherwise.

Maybe you got that first acne breakout to go away without much of a problem but inevitably another one will occur, it’s only a matter of time. Sometimes acne is passed down from your parents and other times it is influenced by what we eat. As a teenager you probably don’t have the healthiest diet. Mom might make you eat vegetables with your dinner but when you get the chance its burgers and greasy pizza time all the time. Stop eating foods that have a high amount of fat and sugar and drink more water. A healthy body will mean healthy skin – look at anyone who eats a balanced diet and drinks a healthy amount of water – they look healthy dont they.

Its important to make sure also that if you wear makeup of any kind that you cleanse your skin properly after each use. Dont go to bed with it on – sure it might be hypoallergenic and all that wonderful stuff but if you leave your pores blocked overnight then dont be surprised if you wind up with a few zits a few days later. Actually the same cleansing pads that you use to remove makeup wont do any harm to guys either – theyre a great way of keeping your pores clean and your face free of zits.

Sometimes, no matter how diligent you are acne still occurs. It’s part of life that many deal with each year. Getting into a routine with your cleaning products and changing your diet will help some but you may need something stronger. Dermatologists often prescribe pills to those who suffer from moderate to severe acne although this isnt always the ideal route for some people. More people are looking back to nature for safe and healthy remedies to common lifestyle problems.br

Popular Acne Treatment – Green Tea Extract

Being able to cure acne naturally with items such as green tea extract has become hugely popular over the last several years. Natural acne remedies are generally much less expensive then traditional over the counter acne remedies and are likely to produce the same skin clearing results without creating any further irritation to your skin.

Green tea has been used as an acne remedy for many years. Its ability to rid the body of irritants is very effective in clearing the skin of blemishes. If you decide to use green tea to clear up acne do not add any sweeteners to your tea as in will negate all of the positive effects that the tea can provide your skin with.

If drinking tea is not your thing then you can select for a great variety of acne fighting products containing green tea tree extract. The most popular form of acne remedy containing green tea extract is skin cream. This type of acne fighting product is gaining popularity fast among consumers as it is very easy on all skin types.

A very popular method of combating acne with green tea extract is to pair it with green tea. This is very effective, as you will not only be ridding your skin of blemishes you will also be combating the irritants from inside your body that contribute to acne forming in the first place.

Another reason products containing green tea extract are so popular is that they are very assessable. You can find them everywhere from your local grocery store, health food store and even online.

Fighting acne using natural products will always be a pleasant alternative to consumers that do not want to risk the potentially bad side effects associated with most traditional acne medications. Green tea extract should be at the top of the list of natural acne remedies for years to come./pbr

Cystic Acne and Junk Food

Posted in Health & Fitness on 24.11.09

Author: Jason Caney
Source: ezinearticles.com

In order to get rid of cystic acne, it’s an excellent idea to avoid junk food. Some people, no matter what they do in terms of diet, exercise, and general lifestyle changes, continue to have cystic acne that requires medical treatment. You may be an example of the extremely fortunate individual whose skin responds just to changes in diet. It’s unfair, however, to suggest that an improved diet will be a panacea for all people with acne.

Obviously, if an individual notices a connection between eating a certain food, for example, chocolate, shell fish, spinach, fried foods, and breakouts, he or she should avoid those foods. But not everyone has such clear flags.

But food is not the only cause for cystic acne. Frankly I sometimes wonder if more people don’t have adult acne because of our toxic environment, including our food. Or maybe part of it is that everybody didn’t feel as great a need to be perfect in the past. Maybe more people are seeking acne treatment now than in the past, I’m not saying that seeking treatment is necessarily a bad thing; if help is available, why not take advantage of it?

My advice is to press the doctor for something else and if it doesn’t work seek a new doctor who will prescribe Accutane or something similar for a five-month course. Cystic acne is just too unpleasant a condition to be lived with if there is a medication that can control it and the risks are reasonable.

Acne Skin Treatment Online – Laser and Light Therapy

Posted in Health & Fitness on 24.11.09

Source: ezinearticles.com

Laser and light therapy for acne skin treatment is a relatively new treatment form for acne. Such treatment was made possible by Tappeiner and Jodlbaurin about a century ago in 1904. They pioneered the use of light to inactivate dye labeled bacteria via photodynamic reactions.

Dermatologists have known for an extremely long time that sunlight confirms benefits in the treatment of certain skin diseases, but it was unclear exactly which wavelengths were responsible. This of course has changed.

The work pioneered in 1904 has since been used as a viable acne treatment targeting certain porphyrins at certain wavelengths causing inactivation of the bacteria (p.acnes) thought partly responsible for the development of acne.

Why is this so important? Well, firstly this treatment has been shown to be as effective as antibiotics without any of the side effects. Clearly this is bad news for pharmaceutical companies, but a boon for us in this age of bacterial resistance to antibiotics.

There are many models targeting these porphyrins, and they target differing wavelengths between 400-1200nm. Light therapy for acne skin treatment has been made feasible thanks to several key developments in technology: A) pulsed wave mode technology B) heat energy deposition to lesion C) wavelength, spot size and pulse width optimization.

What does this mean for acne sufferers? It means a relatively safe acne treatment regime that gives results comparable to antibiotics. The only downside is the hassle of turning up to repeated sessions. This however is a small price to pay for someone suffering from acne.

What Causes Acne Acne-inc

Posted in Health & Fitness on 23.11.09

Author: Charles Boisvert -
Source: articledashboard.com

Although the exact causes of acne are not clear. It is the visible result of a disturbance between hormones, bacteria and inflammation taking place in the oil glands(sebaceous) found in the hair follicle.

As this imbalance advances, the gland becomes overactive and creates a greater amount of oil. The inside of the follicle wall becomes saturated and more sticky. Which builds up and becomes blocked creating comedones(blackheads and whiteheads).

The acne bacteria feeds, grows and multiplies in the oil from the blocked pores. The bacteria then releases chemicals which alerts white cells in the blood. In the bodies attempt to eliminate these chemicals, inflammation is causes. Resulting in papules and pustules(pimples and zits).

The inflamed pores(hair follicle) and the oil gland causes the skin around it to also become inflamed creating nodules(lumps and cysts). The inflammation also harms collagen cells. The cell then becomes imbalanced. If it produces less collagen this create what is called thinning of the skin or depressed scaring. If it produces more collagen, this will thicken the scar.

Exterior factor that aggravate your acne do so in the same way. It is a combined effect of the acne bacteria, hormones(male – testosterone and dihydrotestosterone) and a overactive oil gland blocking pores and creating inflammation. When the pores are blocked at the surface it encourages more oil production creating bacteria and inflammation which lead to pimples or zits.

Hair spray, oil based cosmetics, oils and greases can contribute to blocking the hair follicle at the surface. Sports equipment such as helmets, pads and hats. damp, humide or sweaty clothes that are in contact with your skin for an extended amount of time can also block pores.

Andogenic hormonale medication found in steroids and progestin, found in birth control pills, can increase oil production in the glands which aggravates acne.

Bad eating habits and poor hygiene will not cause acne. This is the most common of acne myths. However, over-washing can cause irritation and worsen your inflammation. Washing twice daily with a salicylic acid(2%) face wash will clear your pores without dehydrating your skin.

Pimples – How to Get Rid of Acne For Good

Posted in Health & Fitness on 23.11.09

Author: Chase Michaels
Source: ezinearticles.com

That is one of the most common questions on the internet because so many people are affected by acne. I was one of them for well over 12 years, and it crushed my self-esteem.

I had everything from blackheads to cystic body acne and nothing seemed to help, including every topical I ever tried and even Accutane!

Here are some tips that helped me finally get clear after 12 miserable years.

1. Despite what your dermatologist may have told you, diet DOES play a crucial role in the development of acne. This has been proven time and time again. And it’s not just the supposedly ‘bad’ foods like chocolate and pizza that help acne form. You’d be surprised what can cause acne, including dairy for some people!

2. Certain foods actually will HELP your acne. Yes, there are certain foods that will help your body fight acne before it can even begin, controlling hormones and reducing inflammation. One such food would be anything that contains Omega 3 such as certain types of fish.

3. Supplements: It is hard to have the ‘perfect’ diet, especially when you are so busy. If you find it hard to get the vitamins that are proven acne killers, then you can always supplement with a few high quality products found at your local food store. Zinc, for instance, is one such anti-inflammatory that a lot of people use.

Pimples: How to get rid of acne does not have to be the puzzle that some people think it is. This is a fact, because whenever I go back to my old habits the acne returns full force. I have learned how to finally get rid of it for good, and so can you. Check out my link for more information.

Do you suffer from acne? Whether it be mild or severe cystic acne, it is all the same in the long run. All you need to know is HOW to control it, and the work is already done for you. How to get rid of acne is not as difficult as some doctors and dermatologists claim. Click my link below for information, you will thank yourself later.

Balance Your Hormones to Reduce Acne

Posted in Health & Fitness on 22.11.09

Author: Robert Kokoska
Source: articlesbase.com

There are actually two big groups of bodily hormones that you will need to balance if you ever wish to treat your acne that is caused from hormonal reasons.

The first set of hormones that we will look at are called androgen’s, and they are responsible for regulating the oil in your skin, otherwise known as sebum. You can get acne if you have too much of this skin oil because it can block the pores and mix with dirt and bacteria that cause those dreaded inflamed spots called acne.

The trapped bacteria starts to spread and multiply within the pores which creates redness and swelling because the body attempts to fight this “infection” which creates that disgusting stuff called pus.

The other important type of hormones are called prostaglandins. These hormones are produced in the cells and act as chemical messengers. Prostaglandins are important because the control both inflammation and the anti-inflammatory response in the body which is why you need a balance of the 2 kinds. They are sometimes referred to as “bad” and “good” prostaglandins.

The big question on every ones mind then is, how do you begin to regulate these hormones in our body’s naturally?

To start with, many people lack essential nutrients that the body actually needs to produce these so called “good” prostaglandins. When this happens you get an over-abundance of the other kind which is responsible for causing inflammation and is not what an acne sufferer needs more of.

A chemical called ALA or ((alpha-linolenic acid) which is a fancy name for Omega 3, is an essential fatty acid that is actually the precursor for “good” prostaglandins which means it’s needed for it’s production. Most people in the US are chronically deficient in Omega 3.

Most oil products that you have in your household are high in the other types of Omega fatty acids being 6 and 9 but very little in the 3 type. Incidently, Omega 6 is the precursor for the “bad” type of prostaglandin.

Some of the best sources for getting Omega 3 are flax or fish oil. These oils are good because they often have a ratio of 2-1 in favor of Omega 3 which is good to balance the other oils that you eat throughout the day.

Taking a good quality enzyme supplement with these oils is also a good idea which will make sure that the oils get broken down properly and get utilized by the body. Funny enough, a lot of people in the US also have an enzyme deficiency.

Another good idea is to take your healthy oils with fruits that naturally contain high amounts of enzymes such as papaya, kiwi fruit, figs and pineapple.

Stress causes the body to use up most of it it’s precious supplies of the “good” type of prostaglandins. So do other practices such as smoking, that create nasty chemicals called free-radicals, that actually attack the necessary chemicals that are used for the synthesis of prostaglandins inside the body.

The Best Acne Treatment – Good Nutrition

Posted in Health & Fitness on 22.11.09

Author: Carol Stack
Source: articledashboard.com

Most of us have suffered from acne at one time or another beginning in early puberty. Its medical name is “acne vulgaris” and indeed, many of us feel that it is absolutely vulgar.

For some, it is severe enough to require medical intervention by a dermatologist. For most people, though, acne is a relatively mild condition that can be controlled with a healthy diet, as well as basic good hygiene practices and keeping your face clean.

Most teenagers suffering from acne will find that limiting certain foods, or completely illiminating them from their diet, will help a lot in getting rid of acne.

Sugar and other refined carbohydrates

Experts suggest avoiding refined carbohydrates, such as white flour, and especially sugar. This includes high amounts of fruit juices, although whole fruits should be consumed.

Sugared sodas especially should be avoided. These are often overlooked as major sources of sugar, since they are drunk rather than eaten.

For a natural non-caloric sugar substitute that has no aftertaste, try stevia liquid, available at most health food stores or online. It is purported to be 600 times sweeter than sugar, so a little goes a very long way.

Switch from white flour and refined foods such as white rice to whole wheat breads and brown rice. Make sure to read labels and look for the words “100% whole wheat” or “100% whole grain.” Carbohydrate foods low on the glycemic index are best to control acne breakouts, so foods such as white potatoes should also be avoided.

High amounts of fats, including “good” fats

There’s a lot of talk these days on “good” versus “bad” fats. Indeed, “good” fats such as polyunsaturated and unsaturated oils like canola or olive oil, the fruit of the avocado and nuts are “good” for you in small amounts, while hydrogenated oils and trans fats should be avoided altogether. But if you have acne, you should be especially careful to limit your fat intake, even good fat intake.

Dietary fat from any source can increase the sebum production of the skin, leading to acne breakouts. Peanuts and peanut butter especially should be avoided or greatly curtailed. However, fish oil supplements or eating fish a few times a week will help acne breakouts, as these are beneficial to skin health.

Dairy products

Unfortunately, that bowl of ice cream you enjoy as a snack every night not only probably has sugar in it, an acne no-no, but dairy also contains hormones such as progesterone, which can lead to acne breakouts, as can the iodine in dairy.

It has been shown that the fat content of the dairy does not seem to effect its promotion of acne breakouts, so substituting skim products for full-fat products will not help. Using soymilk instead of regular milk and other soy products such as cheese will help control breakouts.

Incidentally, it’s unclear whether chocolate itself, commonly thought of as an acne trigger, actually causes acne. However, most chocolate consumed also contains high amounts of refined sugar, which is an acne trigger.

Reducing or eliminating the foods noted above, along with good hygiene, will greatly reduce or even eliminate acne breakouts, along with other good habits such as ample consumption of fruits and vegetables, drinking plenty of water and getting enough exercise. Bon app?tit!
