Acne Hygiene – The Steps to Take to Eliminate Acne Now

Proper acne hygiene can be key to managing your problems. The key word there is proper, since a lot of things people do to combat acne will actually make the problem worse. For example, using harsh alcohol based astringents that dry out the skin will actually cause the skin to produce more oil to compensate, and that will make your acne worse.

You can’t blame people for doing this, and almost everyone who has or has had acne will do this at some point. The skin is an organ, and while it is a robust and resilient organ, it will react to what you do to it. But proper hygiene will do wonders for your pimple problem, so here are five tips to help you zit free:

1. Don’t overwash. Two good washings with warm water each day is enough. Use regular soap and a wash clothe, and make sure you rinse your face thoroughly at the end. Wash too much, and your skin will become dry and inflamed.

2. Exfoliate sensibly. You don’t need to try and scrape your face off. All you need to do is go over your face once a week with a gentle loofah type of treatment. This will help your skin regenerate and stay healthy, but doing it to often will, again, make your acne worse.

3. You should consider using hydrogen peroxide. This will kill the bacteria in the pores, and help keep from getting acne. The peroxide can’t really get into the pores, so it won’t stop acne that is already in progress, but it can help keep down new infections. But it can be drying, so make sure you moisturize properly.

4. A little more esoteric is the use of honey based masks. Honey actually contains a number of antibacterial substances, used in nature to prevent the honey from going bad while being stored in the honeycomb. Used on people, it can help prevent acne from developing.

5. Buy a bunch of new pillowcases. At least seven, and maybe more. Your pillowcase picks up oil and bacteria from your face, and when you put your face back down, you are reintroducing all that to your face. So instead, change your pillowcases each day and don’t reuse them until they’ve been washed. This will help keep your face cleaner and clearer.

You can also help prevent acne by eating well, exercising and generally keeping yourself healthy. The primary causes of acne are stress and hormones, one of which you have a lot of control over, and the other you do not. There’s not a lot you can about hormones, unless you work with a doctor, but there is a great deal you can do about stress.

You should try to reduce stress in your life as much as possible, and use stress reducing techniques to limit the damage done by the stress you can’t eliminate. Simple stress busting techniques such as breathing exercises can work wonders when part of an acne hygiene method. You just need to remember that you can do something about your acne, and these tips are a great way to start.
